Mr. Sharp is the SVP Deputy Chief Risk Officer at Pacific Western Bank, a $40 billion commercial bank with 70+ branches in Central and Southern California, with a branch in Denver, CO and one branch in Raleigh, NC. Prior to the merger with Pacific Western Bank in April 2014, Mr. Sharp served in the positions of Chief Risk Officer and separately as the Chief Compliance Officer of CapitalSource Bank from its organization in July 2008. In his current role he is responsible for oversight of all Enterprise Risk Management activities, ESG, data governance, external credit review, model risk management, real estate appraisal review and regulatory exam management. 

Mr. Sharp has a Bachelor’s degree in Finance and thirty years of experience in banking and bank regulation. He was a senior bank examiner for the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation for twelve years, followed by five years experience working for Volvo Commercial Credit Corporation, a Utah Industrial Bank, where he filled several roles, including Chief Operations Officer, CRA Officer, Chief Compliance Officer and Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Sharp has been employed by CapitalSource/Pacific Western for seventeen years and has focused his efforts on bank-wide initiatives, including developing the business plans and regulatory applications for CapitalSource Bank (Utah) and CapitalSource Bank (California). As interim CEO for CapitalSource Bank (California), Mr. Sharp worked to develop internal processes to commence Bank operations, including overseeing the development of policies, procedures, compliance initiatives, the CRA plan and the BSA infrastructure. Mr. Sharp is a 2014 graduate from the ABA’s Stonier Graduate School of Banking at the University of Pennsylvania and he earned his CERP in 2019. He is an instructor for the ABA’s Risk Management schools and a presenter at the Risk Management conferences. Mr. Sharp is also a founding member of the California Bankers Association’s ERM Committee and is a frequent presenter on ERM topics.
