Kathie Sowa – Immediate Past Chair
Commercial Banking Market Executive and Market President, Greater Sacramento Region, Bank of America Merrill Lynch
Kathie Sowa leads commercial banking teams serving clients in the Central Valley and Central Coast of California. Sowa is also the greater Sacramento market president serving the 1,200 employees in the 7 counties in the market. In this role, she drives employee engagement and collaboration across all lines of business and brands including Merrill Lynch and US Trust. Sowa also champions the company’s corporate social responsibility and philanthropic efforts in the market.
Sowa began her 30+ year banking career in Arizona and has held other roles in commercial real estate banking, risk management, and commercial credit approval. She moved to the Sacramento area in 2001 to lead SBA lending nationally for Bank of America. She graduated with a BBA in real estate finance from Eastern Michigan University and an MBA from Loyola Marymount University. She is also a graduate of the Pacific Coast Banking School and is Six Sigma Greenbelt certified.
Sowa is active in the Sacramento community and the banking industry. She serves on the board of advisors for the University of California, Davis, and as chair-elect for the California Bankers Association. Sowa is currently chair of the City Year Sacramento site board which deploys more than 60 skilled AmeriCorps members in seven schools working to increase student success and graduation rates. She is also a member of United Way’s Women in Philanthropy which supports foster youth and previously served on the United Way board for 9 years.
Sowa and her husband, Joe, reside in El Dorado Hills. Along with their two sons, they enjoy many outdoor activities including skiing/snowboarding in the Tahoe region.
