Governor Brown Issues Drought State of Emergency Proclamation

General information

Last Friday, Governor Jerry Brown issued a State of Emergency Proclamation to address drought conditions in California. In doing so, the governor ordered state water officials to implement water conservation strategies, and among other things, expedite the processing of voluntary water transfers. He additionally called upon urban water suppliers and municipalities to implement local water shortage contingency plans.

The proclamation also requires execution of a statewide water conservation campaign, built upon the existing Save our Water campaign, to make Californians aware of the drought and to encourage voluntary personal water use reductions.
