DBO Issues Consumer Advisory on Virtual Currency
The California Department of Business Oversight (DBO) has issued a consumer advisory bulletin, What You Should Know About Virtual Currencies, outlining the basic concepts, considerations and risks that individuals should be aware of prior to exchanging or investing in virtual currencies. The bulletin underscores the uncertainty of virtual currency exchanges and advises consumers that, unlike deposits in insured banks and credit unions, they are unregulated, provide no deposit insurance and are difficult to recover if stolen.
