Tad D. Lowrey – Immediate Past Chairman
Chairman, Pacific Western Bank
Tad Lowrey has held leadership positions as chairman, chief executive officer and chief financial officer for several publicly held financial institutions over four decades. He has led several banks as CEO, three resulting in successful sales to larger entities, after driving growth and value organically, through acquisitions, and in one case a successful IPO.
His experience includes building value following startups, creation of growth strategies and turnarounds. Lowrey retired from executive management in April 2014 following the merger of CapitalSource Inc. (“CSE”) and PacWest Bancorp (“PACW”), having served as the founding CEO (and ultimately chairman) of CapitalSource Bank since its formation in 2008. He now focuses on board service, philanthropy and investing, presently serving as non-executive chair of Pacific Western Bank, and as a director of its holding company, PacWest Bancorp. He also serves as vice chair of the Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco.
Lowrey began his banking career in 1983, following service as a CPA and manager with a big five national accounting firm and as partner in its prior firm, in both cases specializing in financial services. He has served on numerous boards including publicly-held financial institutions, a wholesale financial institution, regional and national trade associations, industry advisory groups, and non-profits.
Prior board service includes CapitalSource Bank, Jackson Federal Bank, Golden State Bancorp, Americas Community Bankers, American Bankers Association, Western League of Savings (chair), Thrift Institutions Advisory Council to the Federal Reserve (vice chair) and Savings Institutions Advisory Council to the FDIC. Nonprofit service included vice chair of the board of Trustees of the University of La Verne and treasurer of the Pasadena Playhouse State Theatre of California.
Lowrey received his bachelor’s degree in accounting (honors) from Arkansas Tech University in 1975 and was licensed in 1977 as a Certified Public Accountant.
