A Current Perspective on Banking
Discussion will focus on key challenges, opportunities, risks and new possibilities facing community banks in 2023 and beyond.
The Economic Outlook: 2023 and Beyond
Hear from Bill Conerly as he provides his economic outlook for 2023 and beyond.
Regulatory Discussion Panel
The bank regulatory environment has been rapidly evolving under the Biden administration. With a complete turnover of top regulatory appointees, new priorities have been established. In addition to political influences on the regulatory landscape, changes in the economic environment bring new focus on risks embedded in the banking industry. This panel will address the impact of the current regulatory environment on potential changes in the bank merger application/approval process, expectations for regulatory capital in a rising rate environment and the implications for FinTech endeavors and partnerships.
A Political Update
Hear from Kevin Gould, EVP & Director of Government Relations with the California Bankers Association and Glen Simecek, President & CEO with the Washington Bankers Association as they provide A Political Update. Barry Smith, Shareholder at Buchalter will moderate this panel.
Reimagine ALCO Strategies in the Current Environment
The perfect storm of events has shaken up the banking world and created one of the most challenging environments in many bankers’ careers. After managing through the lowest rates in decades and experiencing an unprecedented historical deposit surge creating an excess liquidity crisis, now an inflation-driven “shocked” rate environment is turning the liquidity and deposit picture upside down. Interest rate risk, unrealized losses and capital pressures are causing bankers to make difficult decisions to mitigate balance sheet risk exposures. The level of balance sheet risk has become elevated with a high degree of uncertainty for any relief on the horizon.
Stacking the Deck in Your Favor: Secrets of High-Performing Banks
What do high-performing banks do differently? Where do they put their focus? Do they perform better in every category…or do they actually underperform in certain categories in order to dramatically outperform in others? We define high-performing banks as those who have achieved the top 5% on ROE for five consecutive years. During our session, we will evaluate the data from banks that made the cut. How do they derive this extraordinarily high level of performance? It might surprise you. We will analyze how high-performing banks compare to the industry overall, the key contributors to their amazing performance and several strategies available to all community banks to drive improved results.
Learning the Magic Words: Demystifying Cybersecurity Jargon
Cybersecurity is pivotal but understanding what’s happening at your enterprise can become difficult when it’s wrapped up in technical jargon. Wolf & Company’s experts have prepared examples of key jargon you’re likely to hear from vendors, alongside explanations of what they mean and why they’re important. Whether that’s zero trust, BYOD, penetration testing, adversary simulations, or a red team exercise, it’s important for executives to have a full grasp of their cybersecurity landscape. Additionally, Wolf’s experts delineate what’s trending in the industry right now, how to take stock of your own cybersecurity resilience, and the top five questions you should be asking your IT/Security teams today.
Hedging Strategies to Complement Your Business Plan
Market rates may continue to rise, but proper hedging strategies are agnostic to the rate environment and its movements. We will discuss various hedging strategies and how to assess hedging performance in relation to the balance sheet. Appropriate hedging strategies can provide an opportunity to enhance return and profitability through risk reduction and cost savings. From reduced funding costs to enhanced risk management, learn how core balance sheet hedging, mortgage pipeline hedging and mortgage servicing rights hedging may benefit your institution.
