Changes to CBA's Web site

In response to the needs of its members, CBA has made several changes and improvements to its Web site www.calbankers.com and has planned for additional improvements in the coming months.

The most noticeable of the changes is the new look of the site. The site now reflects CBA's new brand identity, complete with new color palette and logo. But the changes are more than cosmetic. CBA is providing access to industry research, industry job listings, and daily updates on news coverage affecting or interesting California's banking industry. In addition, CBA is providing copies of legal and regulatory correspondence, as well as access to archive copies of CBA's many communications vehicles.

Soon to arrive will be a complete grassroots tool that will allow CBA members to correspond directly with elected officials and have access to talking points, sample letters and other useful resources to make the correspondence that much easier.

If you have any questions about CBA's Web site or would like to make any suggestions, please contact Anissa Yates, VP of Communications & PR at ayates@calbankers.com.

Increase in Unemployment Insurance checks begin in August

The following information was provided to CBA by the Employment Development Department of the State of California:

Recent legislation signed into lay by Governor Davis provides for an increase in unemployment insurance (UI) benefits retroactively to September 11, 2001. The bill takes effect on August 1, 2002.

In order to implement this one-time increase in UI benefits, adjustment checks of up to $2600 will be issued in August 2002. These adjustment checks will be for the difference between the amount of the UI benefits an individual actually received for a week of unemployment compensation and the higher weekly benefit amount the individual would have received under Senate Bill 40 (Chapter 409, Statutes of 2001).

Since these checks are above the normal maximum dollar amount for UI checks issued by the state Employment Development Department, The Department is making efforts to alert financial institutions of this special one-time increase in UI benefits.

For more information, please contact the Employment Development Department at 1-800-300-5616.

E-commerce issues

CBA's E-commerce Committee met July 18 and focused on the following four important issues to the membership: (1) gaps in insurance coverage for cyber-activity; (2) intrusion detection and resolution based upon rising trends from both internal and external systems intrusion;, (3) CBA's biannual E-commerce Survey due to be forwarded to members in mid-August; and (4) the possibility of CBA acting as the master negotiator in the purchasing of the updates for ATMs required by the ATM networks. Planning was also begun on next year's E-commerce Security Conference. Copies of Chubb & Son's presentation and the BITS (technology arm of the Financial Services Roundtable) research presentation to the committee are available on CBA's Web site www.calbankers.com.
