California Bankers Association commends new ATM proposal
Legislation from Frommer, Reyes and Wiggins would reduce
ID theft
SACRAMENTO December 16, 2003 - The following
statement is from the California Bankers Association (CBA) regarding
the recent legislative proposal to impose usage guidelines on
non-bank ATMs to reduce incidents of ID theft:
"The California Bankers Association commends
Assembly Members Frommer, Reyes and Wiggins on their recent legislative
proposal that would require independent owners of automatic teller
machines (ATMs) to adhere to a set of safety and usage guidelines
adopted by the Department of Financial Institutions. California's
banks have been complying with usage and safety regulations for
years and have been happy to do so. The safety and confidence
of our customers always has been and always will be our biggest
priority. We believe that by enacting a set of meaningful and
enforceable guidelines for non-bank ATM owners, we can further
ensure a safe ATM experience for all Californians."
