California banks contribute to global tsunami relief effort
Members of California Bankers Association unite to provide
relief
SACRAMENTO - January 18, 2005 - The California Bankers
Association (CBA) today recognizes the efforts of its members
to provide relief to those affected by the tsunami in Southeast
Asia.

Bank of America contributed $500,000 from its Bank
of America Charitable Foundation to AmeriCares, American Red
Cross International Response Fund, Catholic Relief Services,
Save the Children, UNICEF, and World Vision. Bank of America
and its associates also will donate in excess of $1 million
to non-profit organizations working in support of Asia disaster
relief efforts through the company's employee matching gifts
program.

Bank of the West's parent company donated 600,000
euros to the relief efforts and will be matching donations
made by all European BNP Paribas employees. Bank of the West
has donated an additional $500,000 to the International Red
Cross.

California National Bank is matching all donations
made by employees and sending their contributions to World
Vision International.
" Comerica Inc. donated $50,000 to the American Red Cross
and is coordinating contributions from its customers to be
sent to the American Red Cross.

The CitiGroup Foundation donated $3 million to the
tsunami relief efforts and will match all employee contributions
to legitimate, non-profit organizations working in support
of the relief effort. Of the $3 million donation, $1 million
will go to the Red Cross, $1 million will be given to other
non-government organizations and the remaining $1 million
is earmarked for rebuilding the affected communities.

City National Bank contributed $25,000 to the American
Red Cross International Response Fund and Save the Children
and will match up to $25,000 for donations made by their employees.

Far East National Bank is matching all donations made
by employees up to $1,000 per employee for tsunami relief.
After only the first week, more than 40 percent of Far East
National's employees participated in relief efforts, contributing
more than $12,000 to the American Red Cross and other relief
organizations.

Providian Financial contributed $50,000 to Save the
Children and will match up to $1,000 per employee for their
contributions to the effort.

Umpqua Bank contributed $3,000 to the Mercy Corps and
an additional $10,000 to other relief organizations. Additionally,
Umpqua will match employee contributions up to $10,000 for contributions
made to all tsunami relief organizations.

Union Bank of California's UBOC Foundation contributed
$25,000 to relief efforts and will match up to $2,500 per employee
for their contributions to relief efforts.

Washington Mutual has donated $100,000 to various agencies
administering relief to victims, including the American Red
Cross, Salvation Army, the Mercy Corps and CARE.

Wells Fargo has donated $100,000 to the American Red
Cross International Response Fund and will provide matching
funds of up to $250,000 for donations made by its employees.
In addition, Wells is waiving the money transfer fees for U.S.-based
customers sending money to family and friends affected by the
disaster.
