CBA's State Government Relations program has three components:
(1) Legislation and regulation; (2) Political action (CBASPAC);
and (3) Banker involvement (Legislative Relationship Program).
The State Government Relations Committee is the CBA policy body
that has principal responsibility for adopting CBA positions on
state legislation and regulation. To advocate these positions
before the California Legislature and various regulatory bodies
of the State of California, CBA maintains a Sacramento Office
staffed by three advocates and three support staff.
Political action is handled by CBASPAC, the association's political
action committee that supports candidates for legislative, and
occasionally statewide office. CBASPAC can accept both corporate
and individual contributions from CBA members, subject to the
Proposition 208 limits.
Banker involvement is conducted primarily through the Legislative
Relationship Program (LRP). This program is designed to help bankers
establish local relationships with their elected officials and
is the key component of CBA's grassroots activity at the state
level.
